The KLoWF has largely three areas of survey: women's work(economic activities), family, and daily life in a broad category (leisure)

The survey is designed to reveal the world of female groups who lead their lives in various ways in these three areas.

Female individuals can be divided into groups of women who mostly work outside home (do economic activities), who mostly do housework, and who do a similar portion of career work and housework. These groups can again be classified as married or unmarried, or divided by age or region.

This study attempted to identify thoughts and values, behavior of each group, and the factors and trends of change in family relationships. Women's daily activities other than economic activities and housework are found to be a significant area of life which affects or is affected by other areas.

Because the three areas have characteristics of being transformed and restructured in various ways with the passage of time in women's lives, the passage of women's life cycle is adopted as an axis of this panel survey.

Beginning with birth until later years in life, women have different physical and environmental features from those of men. Because they are greatly influenced by life events such as marriage, childbirth, childrearing or childcare, it is very important to develop question items which take into account those critical periods or events in women's life cycle.

An individual's behavior structure and modes manifest in the areas of their lives and lifestyles are basically affected by the individual's physical foundation, and at other level mutually and dynamically influenced by the individual's thoughts and values.

It is important to make a tracking survey too because it shows how these areas and life events dynamically change the same individual's life, and furthermore, how they will continue to change from generation to generation.
